Winnifred Beach

Beach

Winnifred Beach is Port Antonio's beloved public beach - a stretch of golden sand backed by sea grape trees and reached by a winding road down from the main coastal highway near Fairy Hill. Unlike the privately managed Frenchman's Cove next door, Winnifred is community-operated and free to enter, giving it a genuine local atmosphere that most resort beaches lack. Jamaican families set up for full-day picnics on weekends, vendors sell fresh fried fish, bammy, and festival from simple cook shops behind the beach, and the reggae playlist drifts from portable speakers under the trees. The swimming is excellent - calm, clear water in a protected bay with a sandy bottom. A freshwater spring emerges at one end of the beach, and snorkeling along the rocky headland reveals reef fish and sea fans. Facilities are basic (pit toilets and a changing area), which is part of the charm. The community fought a legal battle to keep the beach public, and their success is celebrated locally. Aurum Transfers delivers you from OCJ Airport in about 2 hours for $465 for up to four guests, with Starlink WiFi.
