Puerto Seco Beach
Beach
Puerto Seco Beach in Discovery Bay takes its name from the Spanish term for 'dry harbour' - the name Columbus gave this bay when he landed here in 1494 and found no freshwater source. Today it is a well-maintained public beach popular with both Jamaican families and visitors staying in the Runaway Bay and Discovery Bay corridor. The crescent of white sand fronts calm, shallow water protected by the bay's natural curve, making it safe for children. Facilities include changing rooms, showers, a beach bar, restaurant, volleyball court, and watersports equipment rentals (kayaks, paddleboards, jet skis). A small admission fee keeps the beach clean and relatively uncrowded on weekdays. The park-like grounds include shaded picnic areas with tables and gazebos that can be reserved for groups. Local food vendors sometimes set up outside the entrance selling jerk chicken and festival. Puerto Seco is busiest on weekends and holidays when Kingston families make the drive north. Aurum Transfers delivers you from MBJ Airport to the Discovery Bay area in about 1 hour 30 minutes for $210 for up to four guests, with Starlink satellite WiFi onboard.
