Oracabessa Bay Fish Sanctuary

Nature

Oracabessa Bay Fish Sanctuary is a marine protected area in St. Mary Parish, Jamaica, established in 2010 to restore coral reef ecosystems and fish populations along the north coast near Oracabessa town. The sanctuary covers 80 hectares of reef, seagrass beds, and mangrove habitat, and has become one of Jamaica's most successful marine conservation projects, with fish biomass increasing over 400 percent since its founding. Visitors can snorkel the protected reef, join guided kayak tours through the mangroves, and visit the sanctuary's environmental education centre. The sanctuary operates as a community-managed marine park, with local fishermen serving as reef guardians. Aurum Transfers provides private airport transfers from Ian Fleming International Airport (OCJ) starting at $95 for up to four guests, with complimentary Starlink WiFi. The 40 minute drive from OCJ follows the coast east into Oracabessa.
