Firefly (Noel Coward Estate)

Cultural

Perched on a hilltop above Port Maria with one of the finest views in Jamaica - sweeping from Cabarita Island to the Blue Mountains - Firefly was the home of English playwright, composer, and entertainer Sir Noel Coward from 1956 until his death in 1973. The house remains exactly as he left it: his piano, paintings, books, and personal effects are in place, and his simple grave sits in the garden overlooking the sea. Coward entertained a glittering circle here - Queen Elizabeth II, Sophia Loren, Audrey Hepburn, and his neighbour Ian Fleming were regular guests. The property is managed by the Jamaica National Heritage Trust, and tours (typically 30-45 minutes) are led by knowledgeable guides who share stories about Coward's life, wit, and deep affection for Jamaica. The site is refreshingly uncommercialized - there is no gift shop empire or themed experience, just a beautifully preserved home on an extraordinary hillside. Before Coward, the site was the location of a pirate lookout used by Henry Morgan. Aurum Transfers delivers you from Ian Fleming Airport (OCJ) in about 30 minutes for $90 for up to four guests.
