Fort Charlotte

Historic Site

Fort Charlotte is an 18th-century British military fortification in Hanover Parish, Jamaica, perched on a hilltop overlooking the harbour of Lucea. Built in 1761 during the Seven Years War to defend against French invasion, the fort features intact stone walls, cannon embrasures, a powder magazine, and panoramic views of the Hanover coastline and mountains. Fort Charlotte is one of the best-preserved Georgian-era military structures in western Jamaica, though it saw no actual combat during its service. The fort grounds are freely accessible and offer excellent photography opportunities of Lucea harbour below. Aurum Transfers provides private airport transfers from Sangster International Airport (MBJ) starting at $150 for up to four guests, with complimentary Starlink WiFi and cold beverages. The 1 hour drive from MBJ follows the north coast highway west through Hopewell into Lucea.
