Lover's Leap

Landmark

Rising 1,700 feet above the Caribbean Sea on Jamaica's south coast near Southfield in St. Elizabeth, Lover's Leap is one of the island's most dramatic cliff viewpoints. The name comes from a legend - two enslaved lovers supposedly leapt from the cliff edge rather than be separated by their masters. The clifftop platform offers unobstructed views of the south coast stretching from Alligator Pond to Treasure Beach, with the sea far below. On clear days, the horizon seems to curve. A lighthouse, restaurant, bar, and small museum with Taino artefacts occupy the cliff-top grounds. The restaurant serves Jamaican dishes with what might be the most vertigo-inducing dining view on the island. A stairway descends partway down the cliff face for a closer look at the geological structure. The site sits about 20 minutes from the coastal highway on a winding uphill road. Lover's Leap pairs well with a broader south coast itinerary that includes YS Falls, Black River, and Treasure Beach. Aurum Transfers delivers you from MBJ Airport in about 3 hours 30 minutes for $465 for up to four guests, with Starlink WiFi for the mountain roads.
