Port Royal Archaeological Sites
Historic Site
Port Royal Archaeological Sites encompass one of the most significant underwater and terrestrial archaeological zones in the Western Hemisphere, located on the Palisadoes peninsula in Kingston Parish, Jamaica. Once called the wickedest city on Earth, Port Royal sank into Kingston Harbour during a catastrophic earthquake on June 7, 1692, preserving a 17th-century pirate city beneath the sea. Ongoing excavations by the Jamaica National Heritage Trust and international teams have recovered thousands of artifacts including pewter tableware, clay pipes, and ship fittings. Terrestrial sites include surviving buildings from the post-earthquake reconstruction period. Aurum Transfers provides private airport transfers from Norman Manley International Airport (KIN) starting at $110 for up to four guests, with complimentary Starlink WiFi. The 45 minute drive from KIN crosses the Palisadoes to Port Royal village.
