National Heroes Park
Historic Site
Jamaica's most significant civic memorial, National Heroes Park occupies 25 acres in the heart of downtown Kingston. The park serves as the final resting place for Jamaica's seven National Heroes - including Marcus Garvey, Paul Bogle, Nanny of the Maroons, and Sam Sharpe - whose monuments and tombs anchor the memorial section. The Eternal Flame, symbolising Jamaica's struggle for independence and equality, burns at the park's centre. Former Prime Ministers Michael Manley, Edward Seaga, and Hugh Shearer are also interred here, as is reggae legend Dennis Brown. The park was originally Kingston's primary horse-racing venue (the old racecourse) before being redesignated as a national memorial in the 1970s. A major redevelopment project has been ongoing to modernise the park's landscaping and infrastructure while preserving the memorial significance. The park sits in the lower part of downtown Kingston and is free to enter. It pairs well with a visit to the nearby Kingston waterfront and Trench Town. Aurum Transfers delivers you from Norman Manley Airport (KIN) in about 1 hour for $135 for up to four guests, with Starlink WiFi.
