Montego Bay Marine Park

Wildlife

Established in 1991 as Jamaica's first marine protected area, Montego Bay Marine Park covers nearly 16 square kilometres of coastline stretching from Sangster International Airport to the Great River. The park protects coral reefs, seagrass beds, and mangrove ecosystems that support hawksbill sea turtles, parrotfish, angelfish, eagle rays, and occasional reef sharks. Two fish sanctuaries - Bogue Island Lagoon and Airport Point - form the core conservation zones. Visitors can explore the underwater world through shore snorkeling at Doctor's Cave Beach, guided boat tours, glass-bottom boat excursions, or scuba diving trips run by certified operators along the Hip Strip. Kayaking through the mangroves offers an above-water perspective on the nursery habitat that sustains the bay's marine life. The park's research centre at the Pier One complex welcomes visitors interested in learning about coral restoration and community conservation programs. Snorkeling visibility peaks in early morning before winds pick up. Aurum Transfers brings you from MBJ Airport to the Hip Strip in 15 minutes for $75 for up to four guests - your driver tracks your flight in real time so there is no waiting.
