Prospect Plantation

Nature

Prospect Plantation is a working estate in the hills above Tower Isle that has been in operation since the 18th century, originally producing sugar, lime, and cassava. Today, guided jitney tours take visitors through 1,000 acres of tropical agriculture showcasing coffee, cocoa, coconut, allspice (pimento), and sugarcane alongside ornamental trees planted by visiting dignitaries - including a mahogany planted by Winston Churchill and a cedar by Henry Kissinger. The property includes walking trails with views over the White River gorge to the coastline, horseback riding through the plantation grounds, camel rides, and a zipline course. A highlight is the opportunity to taste tropical fruits - star apple, June plum, soursop, and ortanique - plucked directly from the trees during the tour. The estate's Great House is sometimes open for events. Prospect sits about 10 minutes east of Ocho Rios along the coast road and offers a more educational, agricultural perspective than the adventure-focused attractions nearby. Aurum Transfers delivers you from Ian Fleming Airport (OCJ) in about 20 minutes for $80 for up to four guests, or from MBJ in about 2 hours for $305, with Starlink WiFi.
