Appleton Estate Rum Tour

Jamaica's most famous rum distillery has been producing spirits in the Nassau Valley of St. Elizabeth since 1749 - making it one of the oldest continuously operating distilleries in the Western Hemisphere. The Appleton Estate Joy Spence Appleton Estate Rum Experience (named for the world's first female master blender) takes visitors through the full production process: sugarcane crushing in a traditional horse-powered trapiche, fermentation in copper-lidded vats, distillation in both pot and column stills, and barrel aging in limestone-walled warehouses. The tour culminates in a guided tasting of the estate's rum range, from the light Appleton White to the premium 21-Year-Old Jamaica Rum. The sweet scent of molasses hits you a mile before you reach the estate. Tours run approximately 90 minutes and should be booked in advance. A gift shop offers estate-exclusive bottles not available elsewhere. The distillery sits in the interior of St. Elizabeth, about 30 minutes from the coast.
