Hope Botanical Gardens
Nature
At 200 acres, Hope Botanical Gardens (officially the Royal Botanical Gardens, Hope) is the largest botanical garden in the English-speaking Caribbean. Established in 1881 on land from the former Hope Estate sugar plantation, the gardens contain themed sections including a cactus garden, orchid house, palm avenue, sunken garden, and a lily pond bordered by mature trees. The Hope Zoo, located within the grounds, houses Jamaican iguana conservation programmes, crocodiles, exotic birds, and primates - it is one of the few places to see the critically endangered Jamaican iguana up close. The gardens are popular with Kingston families on weekends and serve as a calm escape from the city's energy. A children's playground and picnic areas make it family-friendly. Free entry to the gardens (the zoo charges a separate admission). The property sits on Old Hope Road in the eastern part of New Kingston, adjacent to the University of the West Indies Mona campus. Morning visits offer cooler temperatures and better birding. Aurum Transfers delivers you from Norman Manley Airport (KIN) in about 45 minutes for $110 for up to four guests, with Starlink WiFi.
