Glistening Waters Luminous Lagoon

One of only four permanent bioluminescent bays in the world - and widely considered the brightest - the Luminous Lagoon sits where the Martha Brae River meets the Caribbean Sea near Falmouth. Millions of microscopic dinoflagellates produce an eerie blue-green glow when the water is disturbed. Fish dart past like neon torpedoes, and swimmers trail clouds of light from their fingertips. The lagoon averages just 3-8 feet deep, and the mixing of warm saltwater with cooler freshwater creates alternating temperature bands as you swim.
