Falmouth Heritage Walk

Historic Site

Falmouth is the best-preserved Georgian town in the Caribbean, with more intact 18th and 19th century architecture than any other settlement in Jamaica. At its peak in the late 1700s, it was the island's busiest port - shipping sugar, rum, and coffee to England - and had piped water before New York City. A self-guided or guided walking tour covers roughly 30 heritage buildings across the compact town centre: the 1815 Falmouth Courthouse with its distinctive Doric columns, the Baptist Manse where missionary William Knibb advocated for abolition, the Albert George Market built in 1894, and the Water Square with its ornamental stone fountain. The Falmouth Heritage Walks organisation offers guided 90-minute tours departing from Water Square. Since the 2011 construction of a major cruise port, the town has seen increased tourism traffic on ship days - arrive early or go on non-cruise days for a quieter experience. The nearby Martha Brae River and Luminous Lagoon are easy add-ons. Aurum Transfers delivers you from MBJ Airport to Falmouth in about 1 hour 10 minutes for $165 for up to four guests, with Starlink WiFi keeping you connected.
