Dunn's River Falls
Waterfall
Jamaica's most recognisable natural landmark is a 180-foot-high, 600-foot-long terraced waterfall that cascades directly into the Caribbean Sea - one of only a few travertine waterfalls in the world that does so. The limestone terraces continuously rebuild themselves from calcium carbonate deposits in the spring water, making Dunn's River literally a living geological formation. Visitors climb the falls in a hand-holding human chain led by a licensed guide, navigating natural pools and stepped rock formations over 35 to 90 minutes depending on pace. The falls also served as the backdrop for a scene in the 1962 James Bond film Dr. No, and the site of the 1657 Battle of Las Chorreras where the British defeated a Spanish expeditionary force. A zipline (the Falls Flyer) offers an aerial view, and a children's splash pad and beach sit at the base. Water shoes are essential - rentals available on-site. Admission runs about $25 USD for adults. Avoid cruise ship days (check Ocho Rios port schedules) and arrive early for the smallest crowds. Aurum Transfers delivers you from MBJ Airport in about 1 hour 40 minutes for $245 for up to four guests, with Starlink WiFi.
